In the last century, global sea level has risen eight inches. In the last twenty years, the rate is nearly double that. 2016 was the warmest year on record, with eight of the twelve months that make up the year being the warmest on record. The amount of carbon dioxide absorbed by the upper layer of the oceans is increasing by about two billion tons per year.
These statistics are alarming. overwhelming. terrifying.
But we’re all in this together.
On Saturday, March 25th, at 8:30pm, 187 countries and territories, as well as more than 3,000 worldwide landmarks and monuments, went dark. Each year, the World Wide Fund for Nature hosts Earth Hour, urging everyone across the globe to switch off their lights for an hour. Why? To shine a light on climate action.
This year was Earth Hour’s tenth anniversary. What better time for DreamLarge to join the party?
In an effort to localize this global effort, we spun off a mini-campaign, Lights Out SRQ. The solution starts at home. What better way to unite the community in doing something simple with the potential for major impact?
We asked everyone to join Earth Hour, turn off the lights and share photos with #LightsOutSRQ.
A few of us enjoyed some peace and quiet with our pets...
Some of us played with sparklers…
And one dedicated soul even did some cooking in the dark.
We’re proud of our friends in Sarasota for joining this important effort. But this is only the beginning. We have big plans for Lights Out SRQ, and we hope you’ll join us.
